Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 employers are required to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to employees who carry out any manual handling activity in the workplace by providing specific information and training on manual handling injury risks and prevention.
We are all exposed at times to some form of manual handling such as lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing actions that can be compounded by simultaneous movements such as climbing or pivoting. Manual handling is an essential skill and personal injuries resulting from incorrect manual handling in the workplace account for over one million working days lost per year, as well as the pain and suffering experienced by the casualties. This Manual Handling course will enable students to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks relating to manual handling.
