Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work as a CCTV Operator within the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.  The role of a CCTV operator is mainly involved with monitoring and tracking the activities of suspicious looking individuals or situations in public places.  

This CCTV Operator training course has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a CCTV Operator within the private security industry.

Qualification

Highfield (HABC) Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry

Individuals achieving this qualification will be able to progress to the Highfield Level 2 Certificate in Providing Security Services (RQF), which provides the competency component of the apprenticeships in providing security services. It can also lead to further learning in other areas such as the Highfield Level 2 Award for working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry and the Highfield Level 2 Award for Working as Security Officer within the Private Security Industry.

Course Outline

The CCTV Operator course covers:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a CCTV operator
  • Codes of practice
  • Operational procedures and guidelines
  • CCTV equipment and operation
  • Surveillance techniques

Course Duration

The course is run over a minimum of 3 days and ideally these should be 3 consecutive days.

Participant Restrictions

Students for the CCTV training course must be a minimum of 18 years. A maximum of 12 students can attend each course.

Assessment and Marking

The qualification is divided into 3 units as follows:

Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry
A multiple-choice examination of 1 hour consisting of 40 questions and candidates must score 28 or more to pass this unit.

Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry
A multiple-choice examination of 1 hour 40 questions and candidates must score 28 or more to pass this unit.

Unit 3: Practical use of a CCTV System
Assessed by an externally set and internally assess practical assessment.  Students must achieve a 100% pass mark.

Workplace Safety Trainer
